"Nau Mai, Haere Mai"

Welcome to the realm of genuine
NZ Māori sand art made by a Māori wāhine artist
from Tūwharetoa, Aotearoa NZ

I found a way to display our natural resources and preserve them in a work of art.

Each sandart is handcrafted into a one-of-a-kind customised piece using nature's materials from locations that hold special significance to you.

By using what we find in our environment in abundance, I transform into a unique work of art that resonates with you and your own personal journey.

Significance

To our maori people, in knowing where the natural resources were
gathered from signifies its cultural significance as it's our
connection to our whenua (land).

This brings a sense of grounding and knowledge in knowing who we are,
our Turangawaewae (our feets standing place)
a place where we feel most grounded and most connected to as its

where our ancestors once walked.

All my sand art includes a label with a sand sample
and the location the sands were collected from.

Popular maori whakatauki (proverb)
“He iti he pounamu”
( is small but means alot )

My sand art has been very popular with our homesick kiwis now living abroad and
the many tourists that would love to take home a piece of NZ with them.

Inspiration

My inspiration comes from my childhood, whanau, culture and my children.

Growing up nestled between our Central North island Plateau

and our magnificient Lake Taupo I was fully immersed amongst

(Papatuanuku) mother natures unspoiled beauty.

As an artist this led me to explore the intricacy of summetrical lines

forms and colours so delicately placed in nature,

 yet oblivious to the eye.

My style employs a free-flowing, curvilinear form, emphasising

In the macro scope, the growth and continuity of life.

My cultural links with MĀORI and PACIFIC art all interplay

into my unique choice of medium.

Ngā mihi nui

Enjoy!!
